Hoy se celebra el día internacional de la mujer. Para muchos, y muchas, una fecha que va perdiendo sentido conforme pasan los años. Para mí es una oportunidad para educar a nuestros niños en igualdad de género y civismo.

Vivo en un país en donde los registros de violencia intrafamiliar alcanzan números alarmantes, en especial si se considera que un buen número de esos casos no son reportados a las autoridades. El escoger un día para conmemorar el valor de mujeres valientes, que exigieron condiciones humanas, derechos fundamentales y ciudadanos (como el del voto) y reivindicaron su valor como pieza imprescindible de la sociedad, es, y seguirá siendo por algunas décadas, sumamente importante.

Dejemos de lado la idea de que las conmemoraciones y los días marcados en rojo sobre nuestros calendarios sirven para homenajear y condecorar. Pensemos que son fechas idóneas para informar, investigar y educar. Detrás de nosotros vienen generaciones que crecen dentro de perjuicios, malos entendidos y un sistema educativo deficiente, que se desarrollan en circunstancias verdaderamente confusa: en hogares donde una madre es la jefa y dirigente de la casa, pero un hombre, quizás no el padre, tiene la última palabra.
Aprovechemos el día especial para las mujeres, y contémosle a nuestros pequeños que las cosas antes eran diferentes. Si quieren, hagan chistes sobre lo absurdo de las décadas pasadas, si quieren, recuerden que todavía existen mujeres maltratadas y sometidas por causas meramente sexistas, pero no dejen pasar la fecha, ni digan que olvidarse de este día es el camino a la igualdad.

No recibimos este día porque somos frágiles y bonitas. Se estableció este día para que recordemos y valoremos el esfuerzo de mujeres, ahora olvidadas, que lucharon y murieron por cambios que todavía no se han concretizado.
